Tell me a Little Bit About Yourself and Your Background.
As you already know, I’m Buthaina. I studied accounting in school and went on to get my master’s degree in accounting as well. After that, I worked as an auditor for one of the big Ford companies. I’ve been in the United States for about four and a half years.
How Did You Know You Were Interested in Bookkeeping, Or Did You Already Have an Interest in Bookkeeping?
I only found out I was interested in bookkeeping, to be honest with you when I worked as an auditor. So, I’ll explain a little, I was an auditor for only a few years, but before that, I was in the banking industry. So, I knew I had always hated the banking industry but wanted to be in accounting.
Then I thought I wanted to be an auditor until I tried to be an auditor and realized I didn’t like it. So, I thought, ok, that’s not it for me. So there has to be another way.
Bookkeeping might be what I liked. Being able to be on the other side of the spectrum and helping business owners understand their financial position and being able to read their financial statements. That’s what I love, not the auditing side of accounts.
Bookkeeping is fun. It’s not about going after someone and letting others know what’s right or wrong; It’s helping them understand how to put it correctly.
What Made You Decide to Take the Booming Bookkeeping Business Course?
So, even though I am a certified CPA, I still needed the confidence. I was asking myself questions like:
Can I do this?
Am I ready to do this?
Do I know the ins and outs of it all?
I think I need the experience first.
I have been thinking about all these questions for 2-3 months. Then I saw a Facebook ad post. So, I started going to Facebook groups and asking questions about the course because I didn’t want to waste my time or money on a course that wasn’t right. There was nothing negative about his course.
I hopped on the free workshop and quickly learned that the course was as understandable as I needed it to be. The structure of my business and how to go about marketing for my business. I discovered that these guidelines were guidelines that I needed because I didn’t have time to try out different resources. I needed a structured program. I needed guidance, I needed the how-to’s, and I needed it in an understandable way.
Throughout the course, I received help with making sure I was pricing correctly and how to make sure I was putting the correct profiles out there.
The course has been helpful in terms of Bill’s support, whether on the coaching calls or Facebook group. I get my questions answered right on the spot. In addition, his course shows you how to position your value with a potential client. I was nervous at first, but now it’s easier because I know the value I bring. This helped a lot with my confidence.
Who Are Your Typical Clients as a Bookkeeper?
I thought about picking an industry I liked. I tried trucking and rental properties, but it all depends on where your heart is.
I currently have clients from different industries, but I like the idea of nonprofits. So, this will be what I’m targeting moving forward.
How Soon After Taking the Course Did You Find Your First Client?
It was a journey. I took the course but was still working as an auditor. So, I wouldn’t say I was walking through the program. I was crawling through and doing a little bit here and there. I put up my profiles, but I wasn’t yet doing any of the techniques Bill mentions in his course.
It wasn’t until I got really serious about leaving my job and concentrating on building my business. Then, after I decided to be fully present in my business, I got my first client fast.
My mentality was I was going to make or break it, and that’s it. So, here I am, making it!
I see others that can build their business while having a full-time job, but I was already exhausted after I finished work, so that wasn’t going to work for me, and that’s why it took me longer than I wanted to take.
I don’t recommend anyone do it like that, but it worked for me.
What Do You Like About Being a bookkeeper?
A lot of things, I’m now able to communicate with other business owners like me, who are growing.
I get the satisfaction of knowing I can support them through their account needs.
I can work from anywhere in the world I want. For example, I travel in the summertime and can still manage my client’s needs wherever I am.
It’s being able to be flexible. Flexibility was an issue for me because I couldn’t before.
Can You Tell Me More About the Different Clubs He Mentions?
Sure, there are several different levels. The level depends on the revenue that you make in a year. There’s a 50k,75k, and 100k clubs. There might even be a 200k.
I made the 75k club this past year, and I’m shooting for the 100k club this year.
Then she showed me her reward trophy or glass-looking plaque with her name engraved. (Really cool!)
It’s an excellent way to show how much you are supported and encourages me to keep going. I feel appreciated.
Do You Have Any Tips for Someone Who Wants to Become a bookkeeper?
Not everybody’s journey is the same; this program is about how much effort you put into it. I can say that because when I first bought the program, I didn’t put much effort into it or get anything. It wasn’t until I started trying to get clients that things changed around for me.
It’s just a matter of time, and of course, there were times I was frustrated, but I kept going.
My advice to anyone wanting to become a bookkeeper is yes, we are all at different times in our lives. But if you take the leap and put the effort in, it’s going to happen, that’s for sure.
What worked for me was being persistent and connecting with other people. Learn some of the strategies, and put yourself out there, but don’t wait until you are fully confident because that will not happen until you start practicing.
Because I lacked the confidence I needed to start, it took me longer to reach my goals. The confidence came from going through this course, knowing I had support, and practicing. I kept thinking I had to learn more and read more before I started, but really, that’s not how it works.
The Facebook group, coaching, and emails help get any questions answered. So, my most extensive advice is to do it and get your first client. And if you mess up, so what you can fix it.
