Most people think that you have to have a bachelor’s degree to become a language teacher online. Teaching online without a degree is still possible. In fact, when it comes to students learning online, the projected forecast is to surpass 243 billion U.S. dollars by 2022, according to Statista. And 9.48%, which means 239 Billion by 2027. This is especially true for all that is happening with schools, the coronavirus, bullying, etc.
Teaching Online Without a Degree
Companies need you to teach English and other languages online to keep up with the demand of students wanting to learn. My guess as to why these companies don’t require you to have a degree. However, you still are required to have a TEFL or TESOL certification. Here is the fast track to teaching online without a degree.

What is a TEFL certification?
TEFL certification is the qualification you get from successfully completing a TEFL course (Teaching English as a Foreign Language). Equally, you could complete a TESOL course to become TESOL certified, and these qualifications would be for the most part, interchangeable.
The following is what is required to get a certification and honestly I think it beats going back to school for a 4-year degree.
- At least 120 hours of coursework.
- At least 6-20 hours of practicum (live practice teaching and observation with actual non-native English speaker and NOT role-playing with fellow TEFL classmates.
- An accredited curriculum from a recognized, independent organization within the field.
- Instruction provided by a qualified instructor (who has an equivalent to a Master’s Degree in TESOL or a related field.
The fastest and easiest way to get a certification through an accredited source is through the TEFL Institute. With this link, you’ll get $160.00 off (normally $385.00).
