According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Customer service representatives are employed in nearly every industry. The Median Pay is $33,750 per year averaging $16.23 per hour. There are a plethora of customer service titles that all relate back to customer service, but I will list a few here.
Computer Support Specialists help answer questions or resolve computer-related problems for others. They will provide assistance with computer hardware and software, Printing, Installation, Word processing, and even Email.
Information Clerks perform routine clerical duties like claims, bills, or orders, maintain records, collect data, and provide information to customers.
Insurance Sale Agents explain various insurance policies and help clients choose the best option for them. They also contact potential customers and selling one or more types of insurance.
Wholesale and Manufacturing Sale Representatives sell goods for wholesalers or manufacturers. They sell to businesses and other organizations. A representative will contact customers, explain product features, answer any questions that their customers may have, and negotiate prices.
Customer Retention Specialist typically deals with customers who are upset or planning to cancel their service. Their main job is to keep the customer happy and retain their business. Good at keeping your cool?
Social Media Manager/ Customer Care Associates take care of social media posts from dissatisfied customers. This position requires monitoring an organization’s social media accounts, responding to inquiries, and resolving issues. These I’ve seen answered professionally, even on some Facebook ads.
Skills You Should Have
To understand what skills you should have for customer service, you should note that you also need to have soft skills like effective communication skills, dependability, adaptability, conflict resolution, flexibility, research, integrity, and problem-solving skills are a few of the most sought- after soft skills businesses look for on a resume or cover letter.
The skills needed to achieve great customer service are active listening, knowledge of a product or service, patience, friendliness, responsiveness, and effective communication, to name a few. Most important is the fact that you can provide a resolution to a problem or question.
How To Describe Customer Service Skills On a Resume
Even if you worked as a cashier or waitress at some point in your life, you offered customer service. Most entry-level customer service jobs only require a high school diploma and provide you with training, but how you apply those skills to the job you want, or at least on paper or digital format, is gonna make all the difference. Types of Customer Service
Although there is a ton of titles for a customer service job, there are 5 main categories that these fall into. These categories are the best categories to work from home as you provide great customer service.
1. Customer Support Knowledge Base is also known as Self Service Knowledge Base. It’s often the searchable or FAQ pages on a website and includes how-to instructions that help customers—sometimes internal, sometimes external—solve problems without contacting support, but sometimes those questions need further detail
2. Social Media Support usually consists of answering a customer’s questions about a product or service for a company through the company’s social media accounts. Most companies know how valuable this type of customer service is to gain or maintain their customers. This could also be considered or combined with a Social Media Manager role depending on the company’s needs.
3. Live Chat Support is exactly obvious. It allows live communication that instantly can take place on a webpage. We all have seen these little pop-ups come up, right?
4. Interactive Voice Response (IVR)has become popular. An automated telephone system technology that interacts with the callers gathers the required information and routes the calls to the particular appropriate customer service. I think we all know this kind.
5. Email Support is a fast and easy-to-use way for customers to get their questions answered. You can easily direct customers to a website and attach files that provide the specific information customers are searching for.

Email Customer Service Jobs
ACKTIFY is a Boston-based Frictionless Commerce Platform selling directly to consumers on global marketplaces such as Amazon, Walmart, and eBay. They hire customer service reps to handle phone and email support. They are a family-owned company. You can check the current listings on this page.

Abine is an online privacy company that makes easy-to-use tools for consumers to control what personal information companies, third parties, and other people see about them online. They hire for customer service support and email. You can go to this page to find open positions.
Global Response hires for customer service and email support. Must live in one of these states. Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Wisconsin. At least 1 yr. of experience. The website doesn’t explain in detail what they do, but they do represent brands. You will be trained to become a dedicated ambassador to some of the world’s top brands, working to build great customer experiences via phone, chat, email, and more.
Social Media Support Jobs
Modsquad has a variety of different jobs available, including customer service, email support, and social media awareness. The career page here will allow you to see what is posted and what benefits they offer.

Businesses often refer to LinkedIn Learning to their employees to take advantage of these courses because it provides all the fundamentals for everything businesses need from their employees. Everything is customer service related, including customer service foundations, working with upset customers, customer service problem solving and troubleshooting, creating a positive customer service experience, writing customer service emails, and even social media marketing and so much more.

There are a ton of courses, training, and videos for everything related to customer service. I think the key elements of any course should be able to bring you from being a complete newbie to a professional.
